Back in the Present, Back in the Heat

Can't spend all your time plowing through the backlog.  Sometimes you have to get out and shoot.  Therefore -- yesterday, a couple of minutes along 42nd Street, from Fifth Avenue to Times Square.  Enjoy -- and don't forget to watch for signs...

On their way to the photo album now, where chronology will eventually sort itself out.

It Might As Well Have Been Spring...

Yes, finally, getting back to the photographs.  A great comfort.  And in this one am seeking comfort.  Will be unsettling soon, but not today.

This dates from a few weeks ago -- a very nice spring, not that long in the past.  Introduction to a season on the run...

Will have some work to do to get through the archives before this becomes a photo blog again, as opposed to a photo retrospective.  In the meantime, enjoy...

Almost Back On Stride

Have almost got things back to normal -- whatever normal is.  Post-fire work is moving ahead.  So is other work, which was delayed by post-fire work.  Again: chaos is easy, order is hard.

Meanwhile, while working through a photography backlog, will pause to share this thought...

Not sure who this one's for.  Maybe all of you.  Maybe Ratzinger.  Maybe spiritual materialists.  Maybe fellow New Yorkers.  Spirit and commerce are a little hard to pick apart in this town.  Which may be, of course, what keeps us here.

So for now, let's just call it a quote without comment, and roll it around a bit.

More soon.

Digging Out, Stepping Out...

The fire scene is getting under control.  A tremendous amount of work is necessary before you can say that.  This was, technically speaking, a minor fire -- I'd hate to have to deal with a major one.

In spite of it, and in spite of work obligations, I did manage to get outdoors last week, if only briefly.  One of the nicer things about photography is that, unlike other art forms, it fits well with the rest of life -- even a chaotic life.  Even if all you're doing is running from appointment to appointment, if you have a camera with you, you can honestly say that you're doing photography.  And that in turn means that you can report that, as of last Thursday, on Fifth Avenue at least, life continued to go on...

And that's a good thing.

There's more from this session, and one other, that I'll get to shortly.

Because I can also report that... like all photographers since Fox Talbot... I'm... BEHIND ON MY PRINTING!

But I'll catch up.  No -- really.

More to follow.

Thought/Image For The Day

Yesterday Schiavo...  and whatever you thought about her situation, the end isn't a happy thing.  Today, perhaps, the Pope... and no, I'm not a Catholic, but he does represent an arc in my life.  And in my household, there's a Yahrzeit.  So instead of commentary, I'll just share this, from Central Park, late morning, and leave it at that.

Elsewhere, I see where the Lakoff wars are heating up again.  More on that next week.

34th Street, Spring, The Global Scene, Like That

Part of what keeps me in New York -- you go to a meeting on 34th Street, get out around noon, and find... oh, I don't know... a nice spring day?  New York at work?  Bits and pieces of the global scene?

Or maybe all of the above.

You be the judge.

Pre-Easter, Pre-Spring

There was a fair amount of energy on Fifth Avenue Saturday Morning -- a couple of hours of good weather, a tourist surge, and a lot of pre-Easter parading.

Just down the block, however, things were a little more subdued.

Not to worry.  Relief is, no doubt, just around the corner...

Seventh Avenue, 34th Street...

...late morning.

The purple sign and the cap help make it.  Have a look at the larger version, over in the album.

Downtown, Midtown

Yesterday on 23rd and Park, we were all business...

Whereas today, in Times Square, we were more philosophical -- the ages of man, and all that...

Terri and the media frenzy aside, life goes on...

Miss Congeniality...

...and friends.
